Human Resources Generalist

Position Title: Human Resources Generalist
Department: Human Resources
Reports To: Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO)
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Pay Rate: $20-$25 Depending on Experience

Position Summary

The Human Resources Generalist is an entry-level Human Resources professional responsible for supporting daily HR operations and providing exceptional customer service to employees and managers throughout the employee lifecycle. This position plays a key role in onboarding, employee support, records management, compliance, benefits administration, training coordination, and HR systems administration.

The HR Generalist works closely with HR leadership to ensure a positive employee experience while developing knowledge and expertise across all functional areas of Human Resources. This position is designed for an individual seeking to build a long-term career in HR through hands-on experience, mentorship, and professional growth opportunities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Onboarding and Employee Lifecycle Management
  • Coordinate and facilitate all new hire onboarding activities.
  • Prepare new hire paperwork, employment documents, and personnel files.
  • Conduct new employee orientation and ensure completion of required onboarding requirements.
  • Coordinate system access requests, equipment assignments, and onboarding communications.
  • Process employee status changes, transfers, promotions, salary changes, and separations.
  • Assist with offboarding activities, exit documentation, and employee file maintenance.
Employee Support and Human Resources Services
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for employee questions regarding policies, procedures, forms, benefits, and employment practices.
  • Provide responsive and professional customer service to employees and managers.
  • Assist employees with navigating HR processes and available resources.
  • Support employee engagement initiatives and departmental communications.
Compliance and Records Administration
  • Maintain personnel files and HR records in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and organizational requirements.
  • Ensure HR documentation is accurate, complete, and properly maintained.
  • Assist with compliance audits and reporting requirements.
  • Support implementation and communication of HR policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of employee, organizational, and business information.
Recruitment and Staffing Support
  • Assist with job postings and recruitment activities as needed.
  • Support hiring managers and HR leadership during the selection process.
HR Systems and Administrative Support
  • Maintain employee information within the HRIS and related systems.
  • Prepare employment-related correspondence and documentation.
  • Process HR transactions accurately and timely.
  • Generate reports and assist with workforce metrics and recordkeeping.
  • Participate in HR projects and initiatives as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Education
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Communications, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience may be considered.
Experience
  • One (1) to three (3) years of professional experience in an office, customer service, administrative support, payroll, employee services, or related environment.
  • Experience handling sensitive or confidential information with professionalism and discretion preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong interest in developing a career in Human Resources.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to learn HR laws, regulations, policies, and best practices.
  • Ability to work effectively with employees and leadership at all levels of the organization.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in Human Resources, employee onboarding, payroll, benefits administration, recruiting coordination, or office administration.
  • Experience working with HRIS, payroll systems, or applicant tracking systems.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  • HR coursework, internship experience, or participation in HR-related organizations.
  • Ability to attend meetings, training programs, recruiting events, and other work-related functions.
